Savage Snowmobiling Ordinance Fellow snowmobilers: We have snow and I’m sure you are excited to be able to finally ride your sled. Please keep in mind that snowmobiling in Savage is a privilege that can be lost if the city ordinance and state laws are not followed. Our goal is to maintain safe trails, provide access to other trail systems and to have fun. The City of Savage Snowmobile Ordinance allows snowmobile operation on designated snowmobile trails and for Direct snowmobile trail access. On “designated snowmobile trail” is a trail that is maintained by a snowmobile club recognized by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources. The 24+ miles of Savage trails are maintained by Scott County Sno-Trails, Inc. and supported by the Savage Sno-Pacers. Snowmobiles are allowed on designated snowmobile trails from Dec 1st to Mar 31st when in compliance with other ordinances. “Direct snowmobile trail access” is defined as the most direct route from a starting point to or from the closest designated snowmobile trail. This allows snowmobile travel from a residence to the closest designated snowmobile trail. Please note that riders need to take the most direct route to and from the closest designated snowmobile trail. In addition to the above, it is unlawful to operate a snowmobile within the city limits: Between the hours of 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. daily At speed greater than 15 mph within 300 feet of a residence unless on a designated snowmobile trail On any sidewalks or bituminous trails in the City provided for pedestrian travel unless they are located on a designated snowmobile trail At a speed greater than 25 mph or the posted speed limit, whichever is less, while on a designated snowmobile trail On a designated snowmobile trail when the trail has insufficient snow cover to protect vegetation beneath, or it is marked as closed. The city of Savage and the Sno-Pacers have affirmed their support for a zero tolerance enforcement policy. Please be advised that any violator apprehended by law enforcement agencies, including the Savage Police Department, is likely to be issued a citation. A violator of the “direct snowmobile trail access” ordinance can have his or her snowmobile towed and impounded in addition to being issued a citation. We meet the 3rd Wednesday of the month at the Savage American Legion Post 643, 12375 Princeton Ave, in Savage at 7:00 PM. You do not need to be an active member to support the club but the more members we have helps demonstrate to the community that we are a club dedicated to safe and legal snowmobiling in Savage. Joining the Savage Sno-Pacers includes membership in MnUSA http://www.mnsnowmobiler.org which supports snowmobiling in Minnesota. Registering your sled(s). Registering your sled provides funding from the state used by clubs to develop, maintain and groom trails.  MN state statutes require all sleds operating on a trail, or being transported on a state road, to have current registration.
